Foreign Minister meets Ban Ki-moon

Foreign Minister Hor Namhong asked United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to help secure funds for the US$44 million Khmer Rouge tribunal budget shortfall.

His request came on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Monday.

Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said: “Cambodia has made a request about [the budget shortfall] to Japan and Ban Ki-moon.”

Chan Tani, secretary of state at the Council of Ministers, reported this month that the Khmer Rouge tribunal faced a combined budget shortage for 2010-11 of $44 million.

Cambodia and donor countries met on September 7 to discuss the shortfall.
