Two Draft Laws Were Approved

Phnom Penh October 18, 2010

AKP -- Two draft laws, including a law on national budget 2011 were approved last Friday at the regular cabinet plenary session under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

The draft law on the national budget for year 2011, which is prepared and compiled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance had been submitted to the session held at the office of the Council of Minister last Friday and was approved, according to a press release by the Council of Ministers right after the meeting.

The draft law on the national budget 2011 is a key tool to enable the Royal Government of Cambodia to continue its current strategy from 2009 to 2013 for the national development and its triangle strategy of its second phase, said the press release, adding that it will also allow the government to carry out some priorities of the development programs, including the rice production and rice exportation.

The session of the Council of Ministers also approved the expenditure 2009 draft law. Though, Cambodia’s GDP growth was 0.10 % increase in 2009, down from 6.50 % that they expected, but the agriculture product reached 5.40 per cent increase to subsidize some fields which were down such as the industrial product and real estate, the press release said.

During the session, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also recommended the local authorities and the related institutions and ministries to take care of the people and villagers whose house are flooded by the recent heavy rains and to restore the infrastructures which damaged by flood after the water recede.--AKP

JICA to Help Boost CDC

Phnom Penh, October 18, 2010 AKP -- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided a technical cooperation project to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

The project is aimed at boosting the capacity of CDC, including improvements of investment information, private investment, especially facilitating Japanese Companies wishing to invest in Cambodia, according to JICA.

The plan, which will be implemented early next year, was signed on Thursday by H.E Sok Chenda, secretary general of CDC and Mr. Suzuki Yasujiro, chief representative of JICA.--AKP

1st annual Cambodia International Film Festival to be Opened Soon

Phnom Penh, October 18, 2010 AKP -- Some 120 outstanding films from 28 countries, including Cambodia, will be presented during the 1st annual Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF) to take place from 20 to 24 October 2010.

The five-day event will be jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, FX Entertainment, the Cambodia Film Commission, Kmy Films and the Association of Filmmakers of Cambodia.

Speaking at the press conference in Phnom Penh last Friday, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Secretary of State Som Sokun said that the festival is an international cultural event that will contribute to promoting film industry in Cambodia as well as enable film-production experience sharing. Some 30 thousand Cambodians and one thousand foreigners are expected to see the movies.

To be screened at several venues in Phnom Penh, the movies entails international independent films, award-winning documentaries, classic and modern Khmer films, youth-oriented films and films made in Cambodia, as well as showcasing some of the best locally produced TV dramas and music videos.

All events of the festival, added H.E Som Sokun, will benefit the local economy and culture. They will educate the local film/TV sector, inspire good citizenship and entertain audiences. The festival also helps increase tourism as people around the world see movies made in Cambodia because of the local industry development.--AKP

Democratic Site in Phnom Penh Set to Inaugurate Next Month

Phnom Penh, October 18, 2010 AKP -- A newly- built Democratic Site in Phnom Penh will inaugurate on November 02, 2010, a Phnom Penh Municipality official said.

All form of demonstrations have to be held there in order to end disorder activities in the Capital city, said the official.

The site has been built in early July and completely finished in late September.--AKP
