Man arrested for trying to rape younger woman
A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman half his age in Kandal province’s Ang Snuol district on Monday. The woman said she was cooking in her kitchen when the suspect entered and tried to rape her. However, she shouted for help, prompting the suspect to flee the scene. The accused denied attempting to rape the girl, saying that he was merely asking her for a drink of water.

Pregnant woman beaten while prone
A pregnant woman was seriously injured after a man beat her savagely in Stung Treng province on Sunday. Police said the woman, who was seven months pregnant, was passing the suspect’s house when she tripped and fell. The suspect then allegedly ran outside to beat the woman while she was on the ground. Neighbours sent the woman to hospital, where doctors said her baby was still alive. The suspect told police that he hated the woman.

Drunken Chinese driver wraps car around tree
A Chinese man crashed a car into a tree near Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh on Sunday. Police said the man was incredibly drunk when he wrapped his “modern” car around the tree. The wrecked car was impounded at the police station. The drunk was sent to the hospital, but police have so far been unable to locate his family. Police said they would seek compensation from him, although there were no reports of anyone else being injured. The tree was not damaged.

Alleged thieves nabbed after guesthouse heist
Two men were arrested for stealing from a couple of foreigners at a guesthouse in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet town on Sunday. Police said the foreigners left the guesthouse to sample the local nightlife when the bandits broke into their room and stole a laptop, some money, a flash drive and a mobile phone. Police arrested the suspects immediately after the guesthouse owner filed a complaint, and the goods were returned to their owners.

Dude, where’s my bike? asks petrol purchaser
A 25-year-old man was arrested for brazenly stealing a motorbike from a petrol station in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district on Monday. Police said the bike’s owner parked out in front of the station before going in to purchase some treats. When he returned, the bike had disappeared. When he looked down the road, he saw the thief driving away, and he immediately shouted for help from police. The bike was returned to the victim, and the suspect was placed in pretrial detention.
