A Thai man has been deported following his arrest for illegal entry into Cambodia, a Cambodian border official said yesterday.
Sophannahung That Theang, a 32-year-old from Thailand’s Sisaket province, was arrested on Monday while riding his bike near Anlong Veng town in Oddar Meanchey province.
He carried just 20 baht and some clothes, but allegedly had a longer journey in mind.
“He told us he wanted to visit Phnom Penh,” Touch Ra, deputy chief of the Cambodia-Thailand border relations office in Anlong Veng, said yesterday.
“He was sent back to Thailand on Tuesday because he entered Cambodia illegally,” he said.
Touch Ra said he believed the man was mentally ill.
Meanwhile, Thai authorities repatriated the body of Huot Hang, 16, on Monday.
He was shot dead on January 23 by Thai soldiers who said he was logging illegally in Thai territory, Touch Ra said.
