The lawyer for Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Ho Vann, Kong Sam Onn, said Tuesday that he was going to meet with Tann Mengsroy, the lawyer for 22 military officers who sued his client for defamation and incitement, to try to broker a compromise. Kong Sam Onn said that the suit was caused when a local media outlet misquoted Ho Vann, indicating that he had demeaned the degrees the 22 officers had received from a Vietnamese military institute. But Kong Sam Onn said the newspaper had already published a correction, and that his client had no intention of insulting the soldiers' degrees. "We explained and corrected [the quotation] already. This suit is because of a misunderstanding," he said. When contacted Tuesday, Tann Mengsroy declined to comment.
