In Brief: Potential a(H1N1) carrier at large

Health officials are still searching for a recently arrived Canadian national who was exposed to the influenza A(H1N1) virus, or swine flu, on a flight Sunday from Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport. "We are now cooperating with the Australian Embassy, which represents Canadian citizens in Cambodia, to search for the Canadian man," Sok Touch, director of the Communicable Diseases Control Department at the Ministry of Health, said Thursday. Officials fear the man may have contracted the virus from an infected 8-year-old Taiwanese child who sat next to him on the flight.

Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Son Chhay sent a letter Thursday to National Assembly President Heng Samrin, calling on Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, who is also the chairman of the Apsara Authority, to answer concerns about the revenue gathered from admissions to Angkor Wat. "We are very concerned and need the government to explain these problems to us," Son Chhay said, saying the authority used Angkor Wat "as its business rather than for conservation".


In Brief: Chairman removed at Preah vihear agency

Ty Yav, chairman of the National Preah Vihear Authority, was removed by Royal Decree Tuesday and replaced by a secretary of state from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. Chuch Phoeurn, who made strong efforts lobbying for the listing of Preah Vihear temple as a UNESCO World Heritage site, will succeed Ty Yav, who served as chairman for almost a year. "I'm happy to accept [the job], as I have been working on this issue for years," Chuch Phoeurn said Thursday.
