'CALL OF NATURE' LEADS TO BEATING
A man in Battambang province’s Bor Vil district was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly knocked his wife unconscious with a spade during a jealous rage. Police said the husband had ask his wife to accompany him to a forest area in order to relieve himself. But when they arrived, the man instead berated his wife, accusing her of having another lover before taking a spade and bashing her on the head three times, police said.

SHORTCHANGED SON HANGS HIMSELF
A 20 year-old man in Kampong Speu province’s Oudong district hung himself from a tree on Tuesday after his mother refused to give him 5,000 riels. According to the victim’s neighbours, the man stormed out of his house in anger after his mother only gave him 1,500 riels, short of the 5,000 riels he had demanded. When the mother went out to search for her son in the evening, she found his lifeless body hanging from a tree 70 metres from their house.

COP SHOOTS SELF AFTER INTERVENTION
A policeman in Pursat province’s Krokor district killed himself with his own gun on Tuesday after his mother called him a drunkard. The victim’s mother said her son drank constantly ever since he became a policeman. When she confronted on Tuesday, he went silently to his room, she said. Moments later, she heard a gunshot and found her son had shot himself in the head.

DEFECATION CLAIM LEADS TO BEATING
A man in Ratanakkiri province’s Lumphat district attacked his parents on Saturday after they accused him of defecating in front of their house, police said. The victims said they confronted their son, but that he denied accusations. When the mother questioned her son again, he lost his temper and attacked his parents, police said. The couple sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised, but the man remains at large after fleeing into the forest.

MOM TOLD OF RAPE; MAN, 60, ARRESTED
A 60-year-old construction worker in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district was arrested on Sunday after he was accused of raping a victim police have labelled “a crazy girl”. Police said the suspect told them he had invited the victim to his house to watch television and decided it would be a good opportunity to allegedly rape her. Thinking that the girl was mentally unstable, he assumed she wouldn’t tell anyone. However, the girl told her mother, and the police were quickly notified.
