UXO EXPLODES AT CONSTRUCTION SITE
A 30-year-old man was injured when a piece of unexploded ordnance (UXO) was triggered in Kampot province’s Banteay Meas district on Tuesday. The victim, a construction worker who was helping to build a new school, was digging into the ground when the incident occurred. Twelve other men who were also working nearby were unharmed. Authorities who arrived at the scene found another UXO nearby. Police are investigating whether more UXOs or land mines may be in the area.

SEX WORKERS HAULED IN FROM WAT PHNOM
Nineteen women who worked as sex workers were arrested in Phnom Penh near Wat Phnom on Monday night. Police said that they decided to arrest the women because they were carrying out illicit business in the centre of the city. They added that because the area around Wat Phnom is a popular tourist area, authorities want to clean it up and make it more attractive. The women have been sent to the Ministry of Social Affairs to receive support services.

BRIDE HITS GUEST AT WEDDING WITH CHAIR
A bride used a chair to hit a man during her own wedding party in Pursat province on Monday. Witnesses say that the victim had just finished eating, and that he strolled over to the reception table and was attacked. Though the reason behind the attack remains unknown, the victim said that the bride is known to have hit people before. The victim has not pressed charges because the bride and groom offered their apologies.

PARLOUR RUBS CLIENTS THE WRONG WAY
A couple who owned a massage parlor were arrested in connection with human trafficking activities in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district Tuesday. The suspects, a 56-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife, owned a massage parlour together. Police said they also detained women who worked at the parlour who are known to have had sex with customers. The women will received counselling and support from the Ministry of Social Affairs, police said.

SNAZZY NECKLACE SNAGGED IN DAUN PENH
A 32-year-old woman’s US$300 necklace was snatched while she was driving her car in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district on Tuesday. The victim, Van Chanda, was driving home with her two children in Srah Chork commune when two robbers approached her on motorbike and ripped her necklace off before speeding away. Police are hunting for the suspects.
