The Vietnamese National Assembly will do its utmost to build mechanisms and policies to create a more favourable legal framework for developing Vietnam-Cambodia ties.
NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong made the statement while receiving a delegation from the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFA) led by its President, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam On in Hanoi on Nov. 4.
Phong hailed Cambodia’s past socio-economic achievements and said she hoped the relationship between the two parliaments would be further strengthened in future, making an important contribution to developing solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia as well as among ASEAN countries.
The NA Vice Chairwoman welcomed the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation between the friendship associations and friendship parliamentary organisations of the two countries. She expressed her wish that the two sides actively support each other at multi-lateral forums and, in particular, looked forward to Cambodia ’s support for Vietnam during its tenure as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Association (AIPA) Chair during the 2009-2010 term.
For her part, Deputy PM Men Sam On thanked Vietnam for its valuable assistance to Cambodia in the past and noted with pleasure that the ties between the two countries’ ministries, agencies and localities have grown fruitfully in recent years.
On the day, the Cambodian Deputy PM met with Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Van Pha.
