12/17/2009

Vietnam will do its utmost to promote its traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, Party leader Nong Duc Manh told King Norodom Sihamoni during their talks in Phnom Penh on December 17.

He said he was happy to return to Cambodia and meet with King Sihamony who has succeeded his father, Norodom Sihanouk, in reigning in the royal nation, and made a great contribution to maintaining and developing the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship.

He praised Cambodia’s recent important achievements, and expressed the hope that under the reign of the King and the clear-sighted leadership of the Senate, the National Assembly and the Royal government, the Cambodian people would make greater achievements in national development to build Cambodia into a peaceful, independent, neutral, non-aligned and prosperous nation.

He thanked the Cambodian people for their support for Vietnam in the past and at present, especially in creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese nationals to live, study and work in the country.

King Sihamoni welcomed Mr Manh’s visit as an important event to promote the traditional neighbourliness, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam.

The King congratulated Vietnam on its Renewal and international integration achievements and expressed the belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will make further progress in national industrialisation and modernisation.

He thanked Vietnam for providing valuable support and assistance to Cambodia in its past struggle for national liberation and its current process of national construction. He affirmed that the Vietnamese people are great and trusted friends of the Cambodian people.

He said he will continue with the noble cause of his father, Norodom Sihanouk, to cement solidarity, friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.

Both host and guest affirmed their determination to strengthen Vietnam-Cambodia partnership, considering it an invaluable asset and an important factor behind the growth of the two nations.

They agreed to maintain the exchange of high-level visits to expand people-to-people diplomacy and all-round cooperation between the two countries. They welcomed the two governments’ efforts to effectively implement cooperation agreements, especially those on border issues, and affirmed their mutual resolve to complete land demarcation and landmark planting in 2012.

They agreed to pursue a foreign policy of peace, friendship and cooperation with all countries, including their neighbours.

Mr Manh presented King Sihamoni 100 sets of computers and 100 TV sets made in Vietnam as gifts to the Cambodian people and students.

He invited King Sihamoni and his father Sihanouk to visit Vietnam again, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
