Thailand women’s football players (left, yellow shirts) celebrate a goal against Laos during their SEA Games match at the National University stadium Tuesday. Thailand upset hosts Laos with a 4-1 defeat. Pitsamai Sornsai opened the scoring for the Thais on six minutes, before Souphavanh Phayvanh gave the home crowd something to cheer with an equaliser seven minutes later. The Thai team stretched ahead by two goals before the interval, and sealed victory with a last-minute strike from Sukunya Peangthem. Reigning champions Thailand started their campaign last Friday with a 14-0 trouncing of Malayisa, before being held to a 2-2 draw Sunday by Myanmar. Laos had also drawn with Myanmar, 1-1 on Friday. In Tuesday’s other fixture, Myanmar and Vietnam shared the points with Doant Kim Chi scoring on 55 minutes for the Vietnamese, and Moe Moe War levelling on 76 minutes. The five nation round-robin tournament, which concludes on Sunday, still has four games remaining with Thailand taking on three-time winners Vietnam on Friday, in what could prove decisive for the gold medal.
