ACLEDA Bank announced the opening of its 12th office in Laos which will take place Friday in Khammouane province, according to a statement obtained Tuesday. The new branch, in Nongbuakham village, marks the latest expansion in neighbouring Laos for Cambodia’s second-biggest lender. A full range of banking services will be offered. Narin Phon, CEO and managing director of ACLEDA’s Laos operations said Tuesday that the bank enjoyed a strong 2009 with US$1.4 million in revenues as the country recorded an estimated 7.5 percent GDP growth.
PM backs Koh Pich
Canadia Bank’s owners received a boost for their riverside investment Tuesday when Prime Minister Hun Sen recommended universities hold their degree ceremonies at Diamond Hall on Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich (Diamond Island). Speaking at a degree ceremony at the conference hall of the National Institute of Education, the usual venue for such events, the prime minister said a shift in location would help ease capacity concerns. “Now we have a big location for over 5,000 people on Koh Pich” said Hun Sen, adding that students should contact Canadia to arrange ceremonies in the future. Koh Pich is being redeveloped as part of a US$200m investment by Overseas Cambodia Investment Corp owned by the President of Canadia Bank, Phung Kheav Se.
Gameweek 21 winner
Wednesday, 13 January 2010 15:00 Dan Riley
PHNOM PENH – Gameweek 21 was almost a complete white out, with subzero conditions canceling all but three fixtures. Kevin O’Reilly blasted his Reaper Rockets through the snow wall to claim the weekly prize of a US$20 Cellcard phone voucher and T-shirt with a score of 65 points. Unsurprisingly, the star player and wise choice as captain was hattrick hero Carlos Tevez of Man City, who doubled up to haul 34 points for the Rockets. O’Reilly also benefited from Micah Richards’ nine points and Vassiriki Diaby’s six points. Gameweek 22 will hopefully host a full set of fixtures, with deadline for team changes at 6:30pm Saturday.
