Student directors and producers will begin showing off their work this weekend at Meta House
A group of filmmaking students will kick off its monthly film series this Saturday at Meta House to entertain and enlighten the public with some of the most interesting stories about Cambodia. The topics of the films range from “controversial political subjects to fascinating little vignettes of quotidian life”.
Every last Saturday of the month, the event called “Fascinating Insight” will feature locally produced films by Royal University of Phnom Penh’s Department of Media and Communication (DMC) students.
Twenty-six-year-old former media student Seang Soleak, whose Lives after War will be featured in “Fascinating Insight”, said that “this will enable a young generation of Cambodians to show off their storytelling talents and filmmaking skills as well as get feedback from the audience. We’re still young, and we need to learn more”.
“I hope the students’ video documentaries about life in Cambodia through their own eyes will get more exposure, more audience members and more feedback,” said Dr Tilman Baumgärtel, a professor at DMC who facilitates the event. “It’s much better than having all their productions piled up in the archive and available only to a small number of people at the university,”
Students’ film DVDs will be available for purchase at this open, free-of-charge event.
