A gap year student has said that she is looking forward to "doing some good" after launching her fundraising campaign for a trip to Cambodia.
The Deeside Piper reported that April Goodwin, 17, will travel to the Asian country later this year, where she is due to volunteer in an orphanage which cares for children who are HIV-positive.
She recently started raising funds for her trip by setting up a sponsored event which sees her swimming, cycling and running the equivalent distance of north-east to south-west Cambodia, a total of 730 km.
"For a while now I have wanted to go overseas and help in a developing country. I really feel like I can do some good and have a lot to give. The work sounds extremely exciting, emotionally challenging and very rewarding. I know it is going to be tough but that is all part of the adventure," she told the source.
Year Out Group has 11 member organisations which arrange placements and voluntary work in Cambodia, including The Leap Overseas and Ventureco.
