Gap year students looking for a taste of Asia have been told that traditionally less common choices, such as Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos are proving popular at the moment.

Brett Warbrick, group marketing and product director for Round the World Experts, said that along with these countries, South America, Australia and New Zealand are always in high demand by travellers.

"The number one consideration when booking a trip is to think carefully about your priorities – what do you want to get out of your trip, which places are must-sees, and what level of comfort are you looking for?" he stated.

Mr Warbrick went on to say that once an experience is decided on, then an expert should be talked to as they can help to work out an itinerary and budget.

Year Out Group has 11 founder members which arrange gap years in Cambodia, while seven are experts in Vietnam.
