BATTAMBANG striker Deth Phanida was once again in her element at the Phnom Bak secondary school ground, where her side chalked out an impressive 5-0 win over the Indochina Starfish Foundation team in the National Women’s Football Championship yesterday.
On top of their 4-1 victory over Kandal in Banteay Meanchey on Monday, Battambang were in an assailing mood right from the start as ISF were herded into their territory for most of the contest.
Picking up from where she left off in her dominant show the previous day, Deth Phanida belted yet another brace, which included a candidate for goal of the tournament, a driving volley from the edge of the area.
Mao Reaksmey and Srey Neth pitched in with a goal each in Battambang’s one way traffic, which also saw three goals disallowed, at least two of them controversially, for offside.
The first game of the day at the same venue ended in a goalless deadlock between Kandal and Steung Treng. Both sides had their fair share of miscues in front of the sticks in a tense encounter, which ended with points shared to keep Kandal’s hopes alive of a semifinal berth.
Meanwhile, yesterday at the Banteay Meanchey University field, Siem Reap got the better of Kampong Thom on the back of a double strike from Chhum Mina. Oeun Yava’s 14th minute goal for Siem Reap was leveled within three minutes by Soeurn Srey Ly, before Mina’s goals secured a 3-1 victory.
Later, Sun Srey Teav found the target twice in a two minute blitz as Pursat held out to beat Prey Veng 2-0.
