A TAIWANESE firm is closing in on a $70 million deal to supply medical equipment for a planned Siem Reap hospital.
The firm, Hueiching Company, has been selected to provide the medical equipment, although a final agreement has not been inked, according to Hueching general manager Su Ching Chiu.
“We will supply medical equipment and technology to make effective treatment for patients,” he told the Post
yesterday.
According to a draft agreement provided by the company, it will provide equipment ranging from X-rays to patient beds, which it says are exported from Japan, the US and Germany.
Su Ching Chiu said the firm had 30 years of experience supplying medical equipment for hospitals in Taiwan, and that past expertise had provided the knowledge the firm needed to effectively equip the hospital with medical
materials.
The firm was eyeing future contracts in the Kingdom – provided the first deal was a success, he said.
The $120 million Chea Sim Friendship Hospital will be built on 6 hectares of land over 36 months in Siem Reap, and will eventually stand at six stories containing 600 beds, according to project coordination officer Peanh Kosal.
The firm plans to spend some $70 million on the supply contract, and most of the remainding $120 million on constructing the building, he said.
Siem Reap governor Sou Pearin said the authorities had welcomed the investment, though they required further briefing on specific details of the project.
“We welcome the investment because we believe local residents and tourists visiting the Angkor sites would get better healthcare service,” he said.
