The chief accountant for Mong Reththy Group’s pig farms was in police custody yesterday after being accused of breach of trust and absconding with 11 million riel.
Ros Soly, who is believed to have begun work for the organisation a few months ago, was held in Interior Ministry police custody after being arrested in front of the Mong Reththy Group office in Chamkarmon district, Phnom Penh, on Monday. He is accused of breach of trust and stealing 11 million riel (around US$2,766) from pig-buying customers in Preah Sihanouk province.
Mong Reththy Group’s lawyer Tann Mengsroy alleged yesterday that the accountant “happily” spent the company money on “girls” and other entertainment.
“Of course, this money is small for the company, but we want to make an example,” he said.
The Group’s president, Mong Reththy, emphasised yesterday that the allegations related just to the Group’s pig business. He said the company had previously offered the accountant the opportunity to talk over the issue in person, but made little progress.
The company is now considering its options on pursuing litigation.
An official at the Ministry of Interior, who asked not to be named, said that withdrawing or continuing the case was up to the company involved.
Representatives for Ros Soly could not be reached for comment yesterday.
