A road traffic accident along National Highway 5 in Battambang province has claimed two lives with two more seriously injured, local police said on Tuesday. Five more people suffered non-serious injuries in the crash.
A road traffic accident along National Highway 5 in Battambang province has claimed two lives with two more seriously injured, local police said on Tuesday. Five more people suffered non-serious injuries in the crash.
An Isuzu car with registration plate 2E 9257 crashed after suffering a flat tire at 1:15 am in Moung district’s Ka Koh commune. District police chief Por Song Kheang said that the car was driven by Phim Pich, 55, of Kampong Svay village, Serey Sophorn district, Banteay Meanchey.
He was seriously injured. The 8 other victims were identified as: Keo Kosal, 23, who died, a resident of Russey Kraing commune in Moung district; Nhem Sany, 55, who died, of Ang Snourl district, Kandal province; Pin Rin, 31, a resident of Kam Chay Mear in Prey Veng province, who was seriously injured; Chan Neang, 23, a resident of Serey Sophorn district, Banteay Meanchey province; Bol Veasna, 22, of Moung district, Battambang province; Bun Sambath, 24, of Chhrey Srok commune in Moung district; Sun Suy, 30, of Prey Veng; and Chan Dy, 31, also of Prey Veng.
All victims were sent to hospital, while the wrecked car was kept at the local police office, he said.
A witness told local police that the car was driving from Battambang to Phnom Penh.
Battambang police chief officer Sat Kim San said that the accident was caused by speeding and heavy rain, which caused the driver to lose control when his tire burst.
