AN attack involving a grenade explosion in Kampong Cham province has killed one man while injuring his wife and two children, a rights group and provincial officials said Sunday.

Officials said they believed the attack was premeditated and stemmed from a personal dispute between the victim and a suspect.

Neang Sovath, a coordinator with the rights group Adhoc in Kampong Cham, said the attack occurred Saturday evening when the victims, riding on one motorbike, approached their house in Kampong Cham’s Prey Chhor district.

The family patriarch, who was driving the bike, stopped the vehicle to remove a palm leaf lying on the road. Suddenly, a grenade exploded, injuring the man’s wife and children, Neang Sovath said.

When the man rushed to help them, an assailant attacked him, chopping him in the neck and chest with a knife, killing him instantly, he said.

Suon Ros, the district’s deputy police chief, said officials had identified the alleged assailant and planned to question him.

The deceased man has been identified as Yun Siphan, 38.

His wife, Math Sreymin, 35, and two daughters have been sent to hospital.
