Four ‘gangsters’ held in Ratanakkiri robbery
Four “gangsters” in Ratanakkiri province have been arrested after a woman filed a complaint accusing them of robbery, police said. According to the complaint, the four suspects – 19, 17, 15 and 15 – stole a mobile phone and US$300 from the Banlung town hotel room in which the woman, 38, was staying. Police said all four suspects had confessed to carrying out the robbery.

Woman killed by either poison or strangulation
Confusion is swirling around the death of a Vietnamese woman who passed away last Wednesday in Prey Veng province. The 21-year-old woman’s parents told police that she died because she drank some sort of poisonous substance. But after bringing in a team of scientific investigators, police decided that the woman’s death was caused by strangulation. Police are continuing their investigation.

Man gambles on theft and loses, police say
A man was arrested after he allegedly snatched a necklace from an Indian woman Friday. Police said the woman was walking through Hun Sen Park in front of NagaWorld Hotel and Casino when she was robbed. Police managed to quickly apprehend the suspect and allegedly found him carrying the necklace, the value of which was estimated at US$1,000. The article of jewellery was immediately returned to the woman, and the suspect was detained for questioning.

Desire for more booze led to robbery: cops
Two people have been arrested after they allegedly tried to steal a foreign woman’s handbag near a market in the capital’s Tuol Kork district on Friday. Police claim that one of the suspects confessed to the attempted theft following the arrest. He said he and his accomplice had been out drinking and had run out of money for their many planned adventures. Though they were initially attempting to sell their mobile phones, they changed their plan when they saw the Korean woman carrying her bag. This new plan proved a failure.

Good Samaritan dead after breaking up fight
A man in Preah Sihanouk province died after he was stabbed in the throat while trying to break up a fight between two drunks last week. Witnesses said the drunken men had been consuming wine for hours when a violent fracas erupted between them. The 31-year-old victim stepped in to quell the combatants’ emotions, at which point one of the drunken men apparently stabbed him in the throat.
