Lao, Cambodian state auditors visit

03-06-2009

HA NOI — The importance of auditing State financial and monetary management was emphasised by the National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong when receiving Lao and Cambodia state audit delegations yesterday.

Trong welcomed the Lao delegation, led by the President of the State Audit Organisation Dr Bouasy Lovanxay and the Cambodian delegation led by Seng Ronn, Deputy Auditor General of the National Audit Authority.

Both attended an international workshop in Ha Noi the same day on the role of the supreme audit institutions in enhancing the effectiveness of public expenditure.

Trong said the visits were a good chance for the three audit agencies to exchange experiences and enhance co-operation, which helped strengthen friendly and traditional relations among the countries.

He spoke highly of the outcome of a trilateral forum and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on promoting co-operation by the state audit agencies.

He said auditing was a crucial tool in ensuring effective public expenditure management and the control of corruption and waste.

The NA Chairman said because state audit agencies hold major responsibilities to State and the people, they need to build teams of upright and professional staff.

Trong hoped the audit bodies would work closely to better perform their tasks for the development of each nation while the guests expressed their determination to enhance co-operation with the State Audit of Viet Nam. — VNS
