Viettel enters contract with Singapore firm

SINGAPOREAN networks communication firm Ntegrator International Ltd announced on Tuesday that it had won a contract to provide infrastructure expansion to Viettel Cambodia, a Vietnamese mobile-phone company that began operations in the Kingdom this year.

In a statement announcing three new contracts with Viettel overall - including two in Vietnam - and with Telekomunikasi Indonesia International Pte Ltd, Ntegrator said the total value of the deals was S$16.7 million (US$11.59 million).

The value of the Cambodia contract was not immediately clear - Ntegrator's Singapore office declined to answer further questions Wednesday regarding the deal.

The statement said the new contract related to expansion of a first project agreed in May last year to supply and install Synchronous Digital Hierarchy infrastructure that allows the transfer of multiple digital bit streams over the same cable.

Jimmy Chang, managing director of Ntegrator, said in the statement that it had received repeated orders from Viettel.

Viettel Cambodia Public Relations Officer Vong Sophea said Wednesday that the Phnom Penh office had not received further details on the new contract but had plans for further infrastructure development this year to complete coverage across the country.

He said that Viettel was planning to add a further 3,000 BTS stations and 30,000 kilometres of fibre-optic cable by 2010.

"We want to be the leading company in terms of providing mobile and Internet services to people throughout Cambodia, no matter where they are," said Vong Sophea.

Ntegrator's stock reacted positively to the announcement on Singapore's ST Exchange, closing 5 Singaporean cents higher - a gain of 42.86 percent on the previous day's trade.
