A four-strong Cambodian delegation returned last Thursday without having won any medals at a French-speaking nations’ sporting event held from September 27 to October 6 in Lebanon. The athletes included marathon runner Hem Bunting and boxers Svay Ratha, Long Lamda and Chan Vibol. Hem Bunting, who won a silver medal in the marathon and bronze medal in the 5,000 metres at the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand, said he had not enough time to prepare for event. Svay Ratha and Long Lamda lost their fights by decision, and Chan Vibol was stopped by his Bulgarian opponent in the second round.

Cheam Adam and Puy Neurn both claimed victories Saturday to advance into the finals of CTN’s Kun Khmer Tournament of Champions. Cheam Adam, the season one winner of CTN’s Kun Khmer Champion reality series, beat Khon Makara by unanimous decision, with four judges scoring the bout 99-96 and the fifth scoring it 98-97. Poy Neurn, the runner-up of season two, beat Sok Ratha by third-round knockout. The knockdown blow landed below the belt, but after ample recovery time, Sok Ratha refused to continue fighting, and referee Long Salavorn counted him out.
