MobiTel in Cambodia has signed a network expansion deal worth $200m with Huawei
Huawei Technologies has entered into an agreement with Cambodia’s biggest mobile phone operator, MobiTel, worth $200 million. The world’s second largest maker of telecom equipment will provide services and equipment to MobiTel to improve its network coverage in Cambodia.
MobiTel has 2.5 million subscribers accounting for 67% of the market. It is a unit of Royal Group, which owns companies dealing in financial services, hotels, real estate, television and restaurant franchises.
According to a senior executive at MobiTel, talks have been held for years. The deal was signed during a three-day visit to Cambodia by China’s deputy prime minister, Hui Liangyu.
Liangyu also struck two deals with Cambodia’s agriculture and telecom ministries to strengthen cooperation between the countries. GTB
