The law look other way as sons defend mother
A father was attacked by his son with a bamboo stick when he attempted to stop his wife from leaving him on October 7 in Kampot province’s Kampong Trach district. Witnesses claim the father constantly beat his wife during booze-fuelled rages. Their three sons attempted to take her to live in Phnom Penh with them, but the father refused because no one would be around to take care of their remaining children. As the wife tried to board a taxi, the husband dragged her out. However, one son whacked his father with a bamboo cane, and they managed to escape to the capital with their mother. The father was taken to hospital, but police have so far failed to intervene in the case.

Traffic cop takes one in the chest from students
Phnom Penh police are on the hunt for two students accused of throwing a large rock at a cop in Tuol Kork district on Saturday. Police claim the two students from Preah Kossamak high school hurled the chunk of rock at the officer’s chest while at a red light. As they tried to drive off, passersby began to kick their bike, causing them to fall off. However, they managed to escape on foot. The bike was taken into police custody, along with the rock.

Hide-and-seek game ends in rape accusation
Police arrested a 20-year-old man accused of raping a mentally ill woman in Kampong Thom province’s Stoang district last week. The victim was tending to her cows with a group of boys and girls from her village, when they all agreed to play hide-and-seek with the man. As the game was unfolding, the man lured the woman to have sex with him. Police arrested him later that day. He is allegedly the second man to have raped the woman.

Bike stolen from friend, hidden with friend
Police arrested a 29-year-old man accused of stealing his co-worker’s motorbike in Kandal province’s Ang Snuol district on Friday. The victim claimed he lost his Honda while working a night shift, and asked police to intervene. After fervent investigation, police questioned a colleague, who confessed to stealing the bike from the parking area outside his workplace and hiding it at a friend’s house.

Pregnant woman drops rubbish, gets punched
A 29-year-old pregnant woman was admitted to hospital in Stung Treng province’s Siem Pang district on October 9 after her neighbour beat her up during an argument. The victim, who is seven months pregnant, allegedly threw rubbish on a piece of land that both she and her neighbour claimed. Police say the neighbour then punched the victim in the head, which caused her to collapse. The suspect is serving pretrial detention.
