Vendors who work near Olympic Stadium in Prampi Makara district square off with police outside Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Phnom Penh house yesterday. A letter issued on October 4 to vendors located north and east of the stadium informed them that they had 15 days to make way for offices for the National Olympic Committtee. Some of the more than 100 vendors who took part in yesterday’s protest said they were given a copy of a letter written by Ho Sothy, Hun Sen’s cabinet chief, to City Hall asking officials there to consider the vendors’ request for a two-year delay to any eviction. Ngo Kotri, a motorbike seller, said, “If we move, we have no money to buy a store in another place.” City Hall officials could not be reached yesterday.
