In Brief: US donates cargo truck to RCAF

The United States embassy has donated 36 M35A2 cargo trucks and four trailers to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, according to an embassy press release. The vehicles, which were handed over by US Ambassador Carol Rodley at a ceremony Thursday at the Ministry of National Defence, are part of an ongoing effort to address RCAF transportation shortage issues.


In Brief: PM gears up for ASEAN summit

Prime Minister Hun Sen will lead a high-ranking delegation to Hua Hin, Thailand, to attend the 14th Asean summit from Friday to Sunday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Hun Sen would also meet Thai Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva to discuss the long-running border dispute. According to a press release issued Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asean heads of state will also attend an audience with Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.


In Brief: Thieving monk triggers protests

Some 700 villagers in Prey Veng's Sithor Kandal district protested Sunday a decision by the Ministry of Cults and Religions to allow the return of a monk accused of stealing 20 million riel (US$4,853.19) from the pagoda in October. Protesters burned tyres at the prospect of monk Penh Ry's return. "We cannot welcome him back. We cannot give him respect," said villager representative Vey Chhun.
