Cambodia and Vietnam have agreed to free up cross-border navigation on Mekong waterways. "This will help all vessels - including river cruise ships - by allowing better access to ports in the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and many more sites that attract tourists," says the chief executive of the Mekong River Commission, Jeremy Bird...

One of the vessels to benefit from the change is La Marguerite, the only cruise ship on the Mekong to offer balcony cabins. Launched in September, the 92-passenger La Marguerite has a pool, spa, gym, lounge, a fine-dining restaurant and its veranda suites have king-sized beds and spas.

La Marguerite is named after and inspired by French novelist Marguerite Duras, who wrote about her life in Vietnam's French colonial era in the 1930s. Her best-selling book, The Lover, was turned into a film.

Blue Sky Holidays has a range of cruises on La Marguerite from eight to 20 days. Phone 1300 665 109 or see blueskyholidays.com.au.
