Cambodian village helped by Limerick fundraiser

Limerick Post

A FUND-RAISING ball at the Castletroy Park Hotel raised over 3,500 euro for a charity set up by two Limerick brothers to provide poverty relief in the developing world.

The Annual Fall Prom was held earlier this month in aid of Worthy Cause Ireland, supporting the Self Help Community Centre project in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Mary Immaculate College student, David Quinn, set up 'Worthy Cause Ireland' with his brother Mark after seeing the devastating poverty in Cambodia first hand on a holiday three years ago.

And with previous fundraisers, they have helped build a community centre and school and introduce modern farming methods to the struggling Cambodian village.

Officially opened by Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea, proceeds from the Hollywood glamour themed ball will go towards implementing a scholarship programme and a pre school programme at the centre in the next few months.

The charity hopes to help other deserving causes and projects in Cambodia over the coming years. Worthy Cause would like to thank their sponsors and all those who showed up to make it a fantastic evening.

And 27-year-old David, from Rhebogue is also encouraging people who want to take part in sponsored parachute jumps or shark dives to e-mail worthycauseireland@gmail.com for more information
