Around 50 passengers traveling on GST company bus were unhurt after a crash with a car, though one motorcyclist died after sent to hospital.

The bus, traveling to to Preah Vihear province, hit a car in front of the Mohasal guesthouse in the Russey Keo district of Phnom Penh, the local police said on Thursday.

Police said that the collision occurred on National Road 6A during an overtaking maneuver.

A witness told DAP News Cambodia that the bus was forced back into his own lane after a car appeared on the horizon. Because of his excessive speed, the bus driver hit a motorcyclist going in the same direction.

All 50 bus passengers were unhurt. One passenger, an army officer with Brigade 401 on his way to Preah Vihear, told DAP News Cambodia that “because the driver of the GST bus company drove very fast we were luckily to avoid into the evil, and I am sorrowful for the motorist.”

“Our hopes are with the driver when we travel,” he added, quoting a Cambodian proverb.

A police source said the dead motorcyclist was Nhem Chheng, 41, from Preak Leap. A Ministry of Interior official, he was on his way to work.

Some have criticized private bus company drivers, most of whom are said to be young and untrained.

One critic noted that such accidents have become so common in Cam-bodia that they are often forgotten.
