In Brief: New Southern Gold GM

MINING company Southern Gold on Wednesday announced the appointment of its new general manager in Cambodia, Grant Thomas, a move it said reflected the progress of its concession in southern Kratie province. Thomas previously worked for Tianshan Goldfields, a miner based in Perth, Australia. "The appointment reflects the transition of Southern Gold's gold and base metal exploration projects in Cambodia from exploration success toward development and feasibility," a statement said. The company previously announced it would recommence drilling in November.

In Brief: IBC becomes a chamber

FORMERLY known as the International Busines Club, the Phnom Penh-based IBC said Wednesday it had changed its name to the International Business Chamber, holding its first meeting under the new moniker. The IBC, a meeting place for local and international businesses with interests in Cambodia, also announced its business plan for 2010 at Wednesday's event, which includes the full takeover of a section of the Government-Private Sector Forum as the International Finance Corporation reduces its role in the scheme.
