TEAM Canada clinched the FFC Nations Cup on Sunday at Siem Reap’s Angkor Golf Resort, with an accumulated score of 270 points.

The combined British and Irish team came in second place with 254 points, edging Cambodia into third with 253 points.

Cambodia’s excellent showing in the tournament came about largely due to the blistering form of captain Ly Hong from Phnom Penh, who shot a gross 70 Saturday to record 45 stableford points.

Cambodia notched up the highest gross daily score for the tournament Sunday, which featured a one-over-par 73 by Ly Hong.

Seven teams took part in the event over the weekend. France entered two squads, Britain and Ireland made up a team, and nations Australia, Cambodia, Canada, and Thailand completed the field.

Play was marred by bad weather, but organisers said they were surprised how seriously the event was contested, considering it was just for fun.

At the end of the first day’s play, Britain and Ireland were the tournament pace-setters with 133 points, four points clear of Canada, while Cambodia lagged well behind with 115 points.

The British and Irish team, captained by Brendan O’Driscoll, went off the boil Sunday, scoring 121 points, allowing Michael Warford’s Canadian team to take first place with a daily total of 125. Cambodia were the surprise package on the final day, recording a magnificent 138 points, only to be pipped by a paltry point into third.
