Managements of the University of Health Science are hiring more qualified lectures to teach students at Prime Minister Hun Sen’s suggestion.

University of Health Science Rector Oum Sophal on Monday said that the university’s change in policy came after a group nursing students complained lecturers are not highly enough qualified, with some holding only bachelor’s and association degrees.

“I asked my sub-rector to make a list of lecturers … for year 2 and year 3 to clarify the level of the lecturers teaching the subjects,” Oum Sophal told DAP News Cambodia. “Usually, we have some subjects taught by experts. For instance, if the subject involves operations, we will arrange for surgeons. Actually, we don’t have enough nursing bachelor lecturers, but we have three nursing bachelor lecturers from Cuba,” the rector said, adding that no other university in Cambodia currently offers a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Oum Sophal claimed that he had tried “very hard to make the school high quality as the Japanese Gov-ernment through JICA vowed to help for three years on this subject and also we have two technical lecturers from Australia to work fulltime.” The group nursing students sent an email to DAP News Cam-bodia on Monday morning which stated that they all are unhappy with the teaching of lecturers. The warned that the students would protest if changes are not forthcoming.

Most medical students recently agreed to accept the premier’s solution to study. Others, perhaps because of political interests, continue to complain.
