THE Japanese External Trade Organisation (JETRO) on Wednesday set up an office in Phnom Penh in a bid to strengthen ties between the world’s second-largest economy and the Kingdom, said an organisation representative. Kiyotaka Doho, a JETRO representative in Phnom Penh, said at an opening ceremony that the new premises on Russian Federation Boulevard would serve as a base from which to provide Japanese investors information on investing and doing business in Cambodia. “We will provide support to increase Cambodia’s exports to Japan through our office,” he added. Last year, imports from Japan fell 39.4 percent year on year, while exports climbed 18.3 percent to $143 million, Japanese figures showed, as domestic firms managed to increasingly diversify away from North America.
