If you are looking for other young people to share your ideas and problems with, and sometimes people in the real world don’t seem to understand you, the Internet provides a number of places for people to talk about pretty much anything.

There are a number of social networking sites and discussion platforms for all kinds of people; men and women, the youth and the elderly, students and professionals, gay, straight and bisexual people, and people with just about any interest you can think of.

These sites are a good place for you to express yourself, or, if you don’t wish to write yourself, you can read other people’s ideas and advice and try to integrate them into your own life. Since you can participate in online conversations without giving your real name, these sites also provide a great opportunity to talk about things that you might not be comfortable talking to your friends about.

Here are some suggestions for Web sites that cater specifically to women. But it doesn’t take a lot of looking around to find sites that focus on your identity and interests. Have a look around and start talking and listening online.

This is a super cool site that offers just about anything a young woman could want from a Web site. It provides an opportunity to talk about serious issues, but also has all kinds of games and fun stuff to keep you entertained for hours. There are also a bunch of multimedia elements such as videos and photo displays, as well as educational information presented in cool ways.

FeMiNa aims to provide women with a comprehensive, searchable directory of links to female-friendly sites and information on the World Wide Web. Be is a women’s community dedicated to providing a platform and global resource centre where all women can come together online, but more importantly face-to-face, to give what they have and get what they need! The site lists four things that they hope to help you be: “Be connected. Be engaged. Be empowered. Be women”, and they provide ideas and events for women to come together to make their lives better, while making our society a better place for women to be, around the world.

Webgrrls International is an online and offline networking organisation of professional business women focused on propelling their careers and businesses forward.
