Cambodia issues warning alert on weather change

Cambodia issued a warning alert on Monday to the public to be aware of heavy rain and winds within these few days in the country.

In an announcement, released Monday, signed by Lim Keanhor, minister of water resource and meteorology, it said within these few days, that is, from Oct. 10 through Oct. 13, a number of provinces, especially those lying along coastal area and several others in central part of the country will be affected by the heavy rains and winds.

It said those provinces and cities might include Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, Kep, Kampot, Kompong Speu, Kandal, Pursat, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng.

A preliminary report filed by Sihanoukville province showed that a number of houses and restaurants built along the beach were destroyed while several fishermen were missing due to heavy rain and storm occurred in the province on Sunday.

Cambodia is located in tropical zone in Asia and is rarely affected by severe storm, nor by earthquake and volcano.
