CAMBODIA’S German Business Group is preparing to pour a barrel of Bavarian charm into Phnom Penh’s social scene.

Complete with sauerkraut, pork knuckles, lashings of beer and a band hailing from Munich, the 22-member group is organising Oktoberfest 2010, to be held at the Cambodiana Hotel in Phnom Penh from October 15 to 17.

President of German Business Group Cambodia, Paul Thomas, said on Tuesday that he hoped the spirit of Fruehschoppen – a tradition epitomised by sharing beer, food and fun across a village – would be felt in the capital.

“It is about all nationalities coming together to have fun,” he said.

Emphasising that the event was about celebration rather than profit, he said that up to 1,200 visitors would enjoy traditional delights at the festival each day. Tickets cost $18 each and will be on sale across Phnom Penh.
