TWO more fraud allegations over the disappearance of luxury cars have been made against a famous Cambodian comedian, who already has failed to appear at court three times in a similar case.
Chuon Chan Ratana, also known as “Neang Kaay”, was last month accused of fraud for not returning five vehicles she allegedly rented from Phnom Penh businessman Koam Chanmony. She has since returned two of the cars, but three more are said to remain missing.
Yesterday Heang Sopheak, deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said that the court would issue a second summons for her to appear at court for questioning in a separate case.
The latest case, which was disclosed late last week, alleges that she also rented a luxury car from 40-year-old businessman Sum Chanra for US$500 a month and then lost it.
She was first summoned to appear in court for questioning on Friday but failed to appear or inform the court of her absence.
The new summons brings the total against her to five in the past month.
“I think that I will issue another summons to Neang Kaay this week in order to invite her to appear at the court to explain about her fraud case … I hope that she will be coming to meet us and clarify about her case for this second summons,” Heang Sopheak said yesterday
Chuon Chan Ratana is also facing another case brought by an unidentified woman who claims that she similarily lost one of her luxury vehicles, Heang Sopheak said.
“Based on her activities, I think that she does not care about or is afraid of the law,” Heang Sopheak said yesterday. “If she does not come for the second time, I will [pursue] legal action against her.”
Neang Kaay could not be reached for comment yesterday.
